Friday 16th May
Lucy has been promising my mum and dad that as soon as she finished her term, she would go and visit. I put her on the train after we got back from Leicester, on Wednesday evening and they collected her from Cheltenham station. She spent a relaxing time with them and returned on Friday afternoon. After putting her on the train, they called in on my god-mother and her husband, who live in Cheltenham and who they hadn't seen in months.
They arrived back home at 5.45pm and found that they had been burgled. Thankfully all that was taken was their new (six month old) television. The burglars had smashed a double glazed window at the front of the house and gained entry by managing to open the window - which was locked. They must have spent some time in the house searching the lounge for the remote control and the manual! The police came quite quickly and arranged for the fingerprint expert to come the next day (she found nothing).
My mum has recovered quickly and is philosophical about the whole incident, knowing how heart broken she could have been had they taken something of sentimental value. My dad on the other hand is clearly in a state of depression. The burglars managed to break into his workshop in the barn (boy, they must have been disappointed!) No fancy gadgets, or electrical gizmos, but his life's collection of bits of wood and metal from which he spends his time making things from.
It could have been so much worse...
