Having a 'big' birthday is rather a scary event. This begs the question "how best to celebrate it?" Ever since my 40th birthday, which turned out to be a non-event, we've been away for my birthday (well, for the last 5 years) and it's been great for both of us - having a reason to have a short break just before Christmas. We've travelled to Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Milan. Always before the weather has been reasonably kind to us - but not this time. My 50th Birthday will be remembered for rain, rain and more rain...
